Sacramento Comedy Spot is looking for additional board members, from outside our organization, that can look at our operations with fresh eyes and help us with our goal of reaching more people in Sacramento.

Qualifications

The Comedy Spot would benefit by having board members with a background in brand visibility, marketing/influencer marketing, a history of partnering or engaging with the City of Sacramento, or board members who can advise us on new and creative ways to attract new fans and students.

Most importantly, the Comedy Spot is interested in board members who are eagerly invested in expanding the Comedy Spot’s reach. We want board members who believe in our mission of providing a third space, beyond home, work, and school, where people can connect to one another, escape adulting, be creative, and celebrate each others’ diverse backgrounds and stories. 

New board members must also align with our values. Our fans come first. Whether they are a comedy school student, an employee, volunteer, board member, or someone who enjoys watching our shows, we are committed to creating unforgettable experiences for everyone. Additionally, we want to give our students and performers a supportive space to learn and thrive. Finally, we endeavor to develop shows, classes, and events that resonate with a wide spectrum of audiences, embracing diverse backgrounds and narratives. 

Conflicts of Interest

We would prefer that our new board members are not improv, stand-up, or sketch comedy performers or producers at the Comedy Spot or at any other comedy theater. 

Additionally, the Comedy Spot can not buy goods or services from sitting board members so we will not be able to consider any candidates or their companies/organizations that plan on having a financial relationship with the Comedy Spot in the future. 

Time Commitment and Compensation

Board members volunteer their time and are not compensated. The board of directors meets every other month to get updates on our progress and brainstorm new ideas for the future. Board members are also asked to attend events like Big Day of Giving and our annual Comedy Spot Awards. Most importantly, we want active board members that are willing to jump into special projects to help further our mission and values. We can always use help on projects that would benefit from the knowledge you bring from your personal and professional background.
