Our Open Mic weekly stand-up comedy show is where you will see comedians that are new to performing, some seasoned veterans, and every level in between. Any comedian, regardless of skill, can perform. It’s exciting! It’s raw! It’s hilarious, AND sometimes not-so-hilarious, stand-up comedy.

Thank you for your interest in performing in the Sacramento Comedy Spot’s Open Mic. Our goal is to produce a professional and supportive Open Mic, where upcoming and veteran comics can perform and learn, and give our fans a fun and entertaining show. Here are some things you should know:

  • You must be at least 18 years old to perform.
  • Sign-ups are at 7:30pm. The host will meet you outside or in the lobby.
  • We do not take early, late, email, text, or voicemail submitted sign-ups. Only in person at 7:30PM.
  • The show starts at 8:00 pm and is over by 10:00 pm.
  • The host is in charge of who performs- they make the list.  It takes a while to make the list so be patient and respectful.
  • The final list will be posted in the lobby right before the show starts. We have about 20 comics on each Open Mic. Regrettably, some of you may not make the final list.
  • Regardless of whether or not you make the list, you DO NOT have to pay to watch the show.
  • You can not smoke weed on the boardwalk, in front of, or around the Comedy Spot.

If you are selected…

  • Each comedian will receive a maximum of 5 minutes of stage time. Sometimes we give less time depending on how many comedians are performing.
  • If you bring someone who pays for a ticket you will be selected to perform. This does not include other comedians.
  • Please do not “run the light” (go over your time). When you have 1 minute left, we will turn on a red light in front of you on the back wall, near the logo. If you hear music, you must end your set immediately.
  • You don’t have to use your full time. Just say, “That’s all I have for tonight,” and we will move on to the next comedian.
  • The next three comedians to perform will be posted on the televisions. Once you see your name on the television, you may go backstage through the black curtains near the bathroom. Please be quiet backstage.
  • We don’t censor comedians, but we will limit your time if you are blatantly hateful, misogynist, racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, attack the audience, or disrespect historically marginalized groups.
  • Other stuff that has come up:
    • Keep your clothes on.
    • Don’t throw anything into the audience.
    • We will not honor requests for custom walkon/walk off music.
    • Do not bring audience members on to the stage.
    • Do not use Comedy Spot property as props.

Tell jokes, have fun, and please be professional and respectful to our audience, staff, and other comedians.
